Kiln Hire and Firing Service
Communal Kiln firing services are available for communal bisque and stoneware glaze firings.
Turnaround times for each firing vary with demand and can be up to 2-3 weeks.
The studio has continued to remain open however we have implemented strict social distancing practices and have made changes to our processes and services so that we can all stay safe during the pandemic. To limit person to person contact we have a pick up and drop off area at the front of the studio.
Pieces to be fired are weighed at and paid for at drop off.
We have three electric kilns and fire to a standard temperature of 1000 degrees C for bisque and to a standard temperature of 1260 -1280 degrees C for glaze.
We offer space in our weekly communal bisque and high fire stoneware firings.

Packing kilns
Your work will be packed and unpacked by our staff. If your work is fragile or too heavy, a suitable time can be arranged for you to handle and pack your own work. We ask that you provide your own setters if your work is made from heavily grogged clay such as BRT or if your work has black or blue underglaze or slip on the base/s. If you don’t have your own setters, these can be provided for an additional $2 per kilo of work.

Large kiln -BORIS Internal dimensions:- 68cm wide x 67cm deep x 91cm high; Shelf size 60x30cm; max. firing temp 1280 degrees celcius - $180 per kiln load for bisque or glaze
DAISY Internal dimensions:- ??m wide x ??cm deep x??1cm high; Shelf size 60x70cm; max. firing temp 1280 degrees celcius - $220 per kiln load for bisque or glaze
Medium kiln - HILDA Internal dimensions:- 46cm wide x cm deep x 89cm high; Shelf size 60x30cm; max. firing temp 1280 degrees celcius - $100 per kiln load for bisque or glaze
Small kiln -BABY Internal dimensions:- 33cm wide x 31cm deep x 40cm high; Shelf size 30x30cm; max. firing temp 1280 degrees celcius - $60 per kiln load for bisque or glaze
Casual Firing Rates
Studio Friends
Studio friends are people who also use and book our studio services and classes. Your pieces are weighed at greenware when you bring them to be fired. Our communal glazes are available by booking our glazing tables. This service is only available to students who have completed our glaze induction class.
$15 per kilo if you are bisque and glaze firing with us
$10 per kg for a single firing (either bisque or glaze)
$30 per kilo for jewellery (please provide your own high fire wire and stand)
$25 per kilo for heavily grogged clays such as BRT
External Firers
Firing rates for friends who use only our kiln services.
$20 per kilo if you are bisque and glaze firing with us
$15 per kg for a single firing (either bisque or glaze)
$25 per kilo for heavily grogged clay such as BRT
$30 per kilo for jewellery (please provide your own high fire wire and stand)
CROCK’D CLAY PACK
Cost is $30 per kilo.
We’ll bisque fire and glaze fire your pieces in a shiny (midfire) white foodsafe glaze that lets the speckles from the clay show through.
Drop off days are Mondays and Saturdays anytime between 10am and 2pm. We’ll weigh your pieces when you bring them in and payment can be made by cash or card at drop off.
Please make sure you have initialed each piece and that you take a photo of the group of works for reference when collecting. Pieces are ready to collect in approximately 5 weeks .
